You may have been hearing a lot about a relatively new thory in dieting called the shifting calories theory. Just like the name indications, the shifting calories theory works by having you shift or vary the number of calories that you consume each day. The theory is that by doing this your metabolism will not slow down like with many other diets and it will make losing weight easier. Let's take a closer look at how it works and whether or not it will help you lose weight.
In order to understand how and why the shifting calories theory works it is important to first understand how our metabolisms work. Our metabolisms are pretty smart and they automatically adjust themselves to run faster or slower based on the amount of food we have eaten over the past several days.
So say, for instance, that you have been going along for awhile now eating about 2500 calories per day. You metabolism expect that you are going to keep eating 2500 calories per day so it sets itself to run based on that many calories. Now, let's say you decide to go on a pretty restrictive diet to try to lose weight and your daily calories are cut back to about 1200 calories per day. You metabolism is expecting you to eat 2500 calories per day like you have been, so it continues running based on a 2500 calorie diet. That means that you are going to lose weight when you first go on a diet.
Here's the catch, though. After a little while of eating 1200 calories per day your metabolism catches on and slows down to compensate for the decrease in calories. So instead of running at a faster rate based on the 2500 calories you were consuming it drops down to a slower rate based on the 1200 calories that you are now consuming.
As a result, your weight loss slows down and it becomes more difficult to lose weight even on the restrictive diet. Even worse, though, is that when you go off the diet and begin to eat normally again your metabolism is still going to be running slower and will take a little while to re-adjust to a faster rate. Because of that it is very easy to gain back any weight that you lost on your diet. Bummer!
Here's where the shifting calories theory comes into play. Instead of following a diet that cuts your calories to a low number and keeps it there like most diets do, a shifting calorie diet will alternative both the number of calories you eat each day, the types of food that you eat and the times that you eat. What this does is tricks your metabolism and keeps it guessing so it doesn't have time to adjust and slow down.
What that means to you is that losing weight will be easier and you will be more likely to keep it off when you go back to eating normally. Pretty cool!
The only catch with shifting calories is that you can't just eat a bunch of calories one day and a few the next for it to work. It is a pretty complicated thing that requires you to not only adjust the number of calories, but also the types of foods. Not only that, but you need to eat the right number of calories each day, which can get pretty complicated to try to figure out.
When done correctly, though, the shifting calorie theory can provide very fast, long term weight loss. Not only that but it is really easy to stick with a diet that shifts calories because you eat many times throughout the day so you don't feel deprived.

Agreed Johnny, every article seems to be the same hard sell. If this diet works, then there should be some independent and scientific (and unbiased!) review of its effectiveness, for example controlled studies in with a sample of volunteers, etc. The less scientific data available, the more I’m inclined to believe this is a load of hog wash.
I believe the best option you have is to try calorie shifting for yourself and see if it works. It won't work for everyone that is for sure. Fat Loss 4 Idiots is the most popular out there, and again many people may thing it's another clever marketing technique.

why do we have to pay for it? Isnt it just best that you try to help people to lose weight if your struggling with yours? This is what I dont understand. If you are struggling with your weight and you lose it wouldnt you want other people feel as great as you do without having to empty out their wallet. I know that im not buying any diet plan for money

I have been doing some research...and it seems all information so far seems to be written by fat loss 4 idiots. All articles seem to steer to this company and seem to be placed in "write your own news artical pages" which questions their validity. I would like to see an independent artical somewhere by a credible source.
